In October 2022, Teatr 21 from Poland, Aldente Theatre from Czech Republic, and young researchers from Rytmus came to Winchester, England. Blue Apple Theatre had lots of activities for everyone. We had workshops and discovery things for the theatre groups. For the public, there was a theatre festival and a conference. Workshops With Blue Apple Theatre’s director Richard Conlon, we tried out different acting activities. We even did a famous speech from a play called Hamlet in English, Polish, and Czech! We also did movement exercises and made puppets together. We explored the stage at Winchester Royal Theatre, too. We also had lovely talks about theatre and got to know each other better. We had a special day at Stonehenge, even though it rained a lot! Festival Blue Apple’s core group performed a classic play, Frankenstein, for the audience. The Aldente Theatre chose an even older classic, the ancient tragedy Antigone. To make the performance accessible for an international audience, the company presented a section of the play in English, and the rest had simplified English subtitles. The Polish theatre company, Teatr 21, did not perform the play directly but showed a film about its creation. This production, called The Revolution That Wasn’t, took its inspiration from a real protest in the Polish Parliament by disabled people and their parents. The film raised important questions that we can no longer disregard.
